Role model function beyond the region
Designed for generations
Family businesses make up a large part of the German economy and, according to a recent study, are particularly committed to sustainability through innovation and investment. Ecological, economic and social sustainability are in harmony here. A study also shows that family businesses have higher employment growth.
Jordan has also increased its workforce in recent years to more than 1,600 employees in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland and Italy. This growth can be attributed to the business policy, which is designed for generations. Appreciation, team spirit and minimal fluctuation characterise the corporate culture. The company was honoured with the "Sustainable work culture" award for its active involvement of employees and bears the "Best place to learn" seal. This makes Jordan one of the best training companies in Germany.
Sustainable projects
Sustainability is also at the heart of our "Tree Sponsor" project: we launched this reforestation campaign in 2019 to mark the company's 100th anniversary, as the Hessian forest is suffering massively from the consequences of climate change, extreme weather conditions, beetle and fungal infestation. Companies, but also individuals, can become so-called tree sponsors by making a small contribution for each newly planted tree. As a company, we have doubled the donation volume to 150,000 trees and continue to take care of the planting and maintenance of the donated red oaks, Douglas firs, beeches, oaks, silver firs and other young plants.
"With the commissioning of the JOKA flooring centre in summer 2020, we have started a new Jordan century. The new building is a milestone and an important investment in the future of the JOKA brand, one of the leading brands for floor coverings in Central Europe," says Jörg Ludwig Jordan, Managing Director of W. & L. Jordan GmbH. When planning and building the new headquarters, the topic of sustainability was also close to Jörg Ludwig Jordan's heart: "We have set ourselves high ecological goals and want to fulfil our responsibility for the environment and climate." 1,500 cubic metres of wood were used in the new building, permanently removing 1,500 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. "In addition, three quarters of the storage area has a green roof, you could almost say that the greening area has only been shifted upwards by ten metres," emphasises Jordan. With the construction of the JOKA flooring headquarters in Kassel, as with all new Jordan buildings since 2009, we decided to use a photovoltaic system, which was expanded in 2021 and 2022 by additional modules to a total of 2 megawatts. This means that the company is already self-sufficiently supplied with electricity and also feeds electricity for 5,000 households into the central power grid in Kassel. The photovoltaic system covers an area of approx. 3,960 m².
In autumn 2023, the central warehouse at the new location was expanded by a further 10,000 m². Of this, 5,000 m² is earmarked for the timber construction division. The extension was also built in wood as far as possible, including the office fittings, for example. The PV system is expected to be expanded by a further 750 KW in 2024.
Conscious product selection
As a natural, renewable raw material, wood has been an integral part of the family business for over 100 years. The use of wood from local forests for use in timber construction has an important climate-protecting effect, as it permanently stores CO₂. Together with our suppliers, we attach great importance to resource-conserving and innovative production processes and, with the INKU brand, focus on robust, easy-care and sustainable products for holistic interior design.
Natural design flooring made from almost 100 per cent wood, design flooring made from recycled PET bottles or parquet and laminate from sustainable forestry: the extensive range promises builders, craftsmen, architects and contractors countless possibilities. "In addition to quality, craftsmanship is an important success factor for a long service life," says Jordan. Floor layers, parquet layers, interior decorators, painters, woodworkers, joiners and carpenters can work with the products professionally and carefully, guaranteeing lasting home satisfaction.
