The meaning of a bevelled edge
The two short sides of a plank are called end faces, the two long sides are called long sides. A bevel is a chamfered edge, which a bevelled plank has either only on the long sides or on all four sides. If a plank is completely bevelled, it is called a longitudinal and end bevel or a four-sided bevel or V4 joint. Some laminate decors are even labelled V5 bevel. These are planks with a stone look that actually still have a bevel in the centre of the plank.
Visual effect
Visually, a floor with bevelled planks is more exciting than non-bevelled planks. A room is given more structure, a geometric character and appears more delicate and three-dimensional. The actual character of the planks becomes more apparent here.
The question of "bevelled or not bevelled" is not only interesting from a visual point of view, as a bevelled floor also has very practical advantages: Chamfers conceal unevenness in the joint area to the next plank caused by production and, above all, use. These are caused, for example, by climatic influences such as heat and humidity. Bevelled products are therefore even more user-friendly in everyday use. The fact that so-called micro bevels are also more commonly available nowadays means that daily cleaning of the floor surfaces with conventional hoovers and brooms is no problem.
