Wooden floors in the bathroom
Wooden floors create a cosy, warm atmosphere and are naturally warm and comfortable underfoot. Nevertheless, there are a few points to bear in mind when selecting the wood, laying it and caring for it. Shipbuilding, old buildings and wooden windows, for example, show that wood and moisture can generally work well together.
Which wood is suitable for the bathroom
But which type of wood is particularly suitable for use in the bathroom? In general, it can be said that woods that have a high inherent moisture content absorb less moisture from the outside - overseas woods, which are naturally "used to" higher humidity, are therefore well suited. However, domestic oak, Swiss stone pine or larch are also suitable and relatively resistant. Surfaces glazed with oil or open-pored surfaces have proven their worth and are easy to maintain and renovate.
Another basic rule is that there should be as few joints as possible. This is because moisture can penetrate the floor through the joints. So where there are none, nothing can happen. Of course, joints cannot be completely avoided. Those that do exist should therefore be sealed with sealing tape to prevent water from penetrating. Unpleasant odours or mould cannot develop in this way.
Care of wooden floors in the bathroom
Specialist craftsmen know that what happens under the wooden floor is also important. Care should be taken here to ensure appropriate sealing and, in the case of multi-layer parquet, it is essential to choose moisture-resistant middle layers and core boards. In addition, hydrophobic - i.e. moisture-repellent - edge protection is required here.
In everyday use, you should pay attention to a few points so that you can enjoy the natural product wood in the bathroom for a long time: splashing water is not a problem, but larger amounts of standing water should be wiped away immediately. You can use quick-drying rugs in front of the bath and shower, which are also a great splash of colour.
